What is Power & Signals Looking For?

What does
Power & Signals do?

In Power and Signals (PAS) for UBC Solar, we are looking for passionate students going into 1st, 2nd and 3rd year to build the next generation of our solar racecar! PAS is responsible for designing the electrical system of the car working with custom PCBs, motor control and solar arrays. As a new member this fall, you will join various integration tests with other electrical subteams to test electronics with the battery pack and firmware, while having the opportunity to create your own circuits and PCBs.If you are interested in learning more about the electrical system of our solar racecar, make sure to apply!

Power and Signals is a sub-team responsible for both the high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems of the car. The team focuses on system-level integration of the solar arrays, maximum power point trackers (MPPTs), traction motor, and vehicle electronics such as exterior lighting, the driver display, and telemetry. The team's main focus includes designing efficient power systems to maximize driving duration, maintaining signal integrity for reliable inter-subsystem communication, and working closely with mechanical sub-teams to ensure electronics are properly protected and integrated within the vehicle. Within Power and Signals, members apply PCB and circuit design skills in addition to hands-on testing, debugging, and validation to ensure reliable operation under real-world conditions.
