Electrical Roles

Embedded Systems is looking for passionate, hardworking, and dedicated students going into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year to join our team. On Embedded, students will get to write the software that makes up the ‘brain’ of our car. This software includes safety critical firmware that enables drive control, custom C drivers that enable on-board peripherals like our driver display, and high level application software that enables real time race data collection. This Fall Semester we are looking to automate our testing processes to speed up hardware validation and firmware development. If you are interested in writing low level software, working with PCBs and microcontrollers, and working in an interdisciplinary team of 80 engineers to create a solar powered race car, you should apply!

We build the physics simulations, data pipelines, and race strategy that get our car the farthest at FSGP and ASC. Members use physics, math, and code to decide how, and when, we drive at competition, working closely with aero, battery, and solar subteams.

Work you will do:

  • Build data systems to provide real-time analytics and feedback to the driver and race team at competition using telemetry data streamed from the car.

  • Plan, practice and execute our strategy for the 2027 Formula Sun Grand Prix (and future competitions!). This includes practicing radio communication and training drivers to maximize efficiency.

  • Analyze real data to develop and augment analytical models of our battery, solar panels, aerodynamics, and vehicle dynamics.

Work you will do:

  • Use physics models, data analysis, and analytical and numerical optimization to determine optimal driving patterns

  • Analyze vehicle data to develop and augment analytical models of our battery, arrays, aero, and vehicle dynamics.

In Power and Signals for UBC Solar, we are looking for students going into 1st, 2nd and 3rd year that are passionate and excited to build the next generation of our solar racecar!  Power and Signals is responsible for designing the electrical system of the car including custom PCBs, motor control, solar array configuration, and creating the wire harness that integrates the system together. As a new member this fall, you can expect to join various integration tests with other electrical subteams to test our electronics with the battery pack and firmware, while having the opportunity to create your own circuits, PCBs, and various hands-on experiences such as soldering

We are seeking motivated students entering 1st, or 2nd year to join our Battery Management Systems (BMS) team this summer.  We are just starting to manufacture our V4 battery pack. You will help us integrate our BMS system with the battery, performing firmware and hardware testing to ensure the system works 100% of the time. You will get experience testing the interface between the battery and the other LV and HV electrical components throughout the new car. Apply to BMS if you are a curious learner who would enjoy solving system-wide electrical challenges. In BMS, you will learn PCB design, write safety-critical firmware, and gain hands-on skills and experience for everything that goes into assembling a full battery pack!

Mechanical Roles

It costs nothing to try and Its worth taking the chance.

Battery Mech is looking for engaged and enthusiastic students completing 1st or 2nd year to join us this Fall! We engineer the battery pack from the ground up, focusing on the structural, electrical, thermal, and mechanical integration of high-voltage lithium-ion cells. Our team works on everything from composite enclosures and pack mounting systems to cooling architecture, vibration isolation, and high-voltage connections, all while designing to strict performance and safety standards. This fall is an especially exciting time to join, as we are currently manufacturing the battery pack for our next-generation solar car, Cascadia. If you’re excited by hands-on engineering, learning new skills, and building real hardware that directly powers the car, Battery Mech is an amazing place to grow and make an impact! 🔋⚡

Structures is looking for curious, driven students going into 2nd or 3rd year to join us this fall! Our team is responsible for designing and building the chassis, roll cage, and other critical structural components of the solar car. This is an especially exciting time to get involved as we move into hands-on manufacturing of both our carbon-fibre composite chassis and metal tubular rollcage. If you’re interested in developing skills in composite manufacturing, 3D printing, machining, CAD modeling and more, this is a great opportunity to learn and grow, and if you already have experience in these areas, you’ll be able to apply and refine your skills on real, high-impact engineering projects. No matter your experience level, we’re looking for students who are motivated, curious, and ready to contribute, and we’d love to see your application.

Vehicle Dynamics is focusing on manufacturing this fall. We are keen on first-years who have a strong interest in manufacturing and moving parts. After all, without Vehicle Dynamics, there is no moving car. Our team is responsible for most of what moves the car: suspension, steering, and braking. If it moves, it probably belongs to us. This fall is the best time to join Vehicle Dynamics as we are manufacturing the suspension of our next car. If you are interested in vehicle dynamics, 3D modelling with CAD, structural analysis, and manufacturing, be sure to join us!

Aeroshell is responsible for designing and manufacturing the aerodynamic exterior, including the carbon fiber shell, lights, fairings, and more. We use CAD to surface airfoils and design technical components, CFD to optimize our custom airfoils, and conduct fiberglass layups + carbon fiber wet layups to manufacture the aeroshell. So, if you are hardworking, curious, and dedicated, then Aeroshell is a great fit for you! It’s the perfect time to join Aeroshell, since we start manufacturing the 5 meter by 2 meter carbon fiber aeroshell this June. You will gain invaluable experience making fiberglass molds and doing carbon fiber lay-ups, working with CAD parts and assemblies, and/or improve our CFD methods + airfoil optimization process. Ultimately, we are looking for students going into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year who are super motivated and ready to contribute to our team.

Business Roles

Marketing is looking for creative and driven students going into their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year to stay with us through the 2027 Summer competition. We are manufacturing every single part of our car from the battery to the entire chassis, offering an amazing opportunity for working with a real product. If capturing this progress by designing and editing videos and photos for Youtube, Instagram, LinkedIn, expanding our website with many new pages (Ex: sustainability and our competition), creating reels, and telling the story of an 80+ member team interests you, join us! You will also collaborate closely with Finance and the Executive team to host summer events, ranging from World Cup nights to networking forums like our recent startup incubator event with Althra.

Finance is seeking dedicated and motivated students going into their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year to join us through the 2027 Summer competition. Our Finance team drives Solar forward by managing our $150,000 budget and funding the entire operation. New members will sync directly with engineers on purchasing, manage financial ledgers, and collaborate with partners like the AMS for events and funding. A major focus is outreach; you will network with entrepreneurs, organize joint events with Marketing and Execs, like our recent Althra incubator event, and actively pitch sponsors. We secured over $25,000 in sponsorships last year, and our biggest goal will be working with us to secure at least $20,000 more this Summer to fund the car’s manufacturing and purchases to improve efficiency.
